My Bad Season 5 Episode 1 Recap

The season five premiere begins right where we left off last time. Dexter is in the front yard, holding a crying Harrison, as police arrive. Rita has been found murdered and Dexter is in shock. Deb also arrives to the scene and Dexter shockingly tells her, “Rita’s inside. It was me."

Masuka and Quinn investigate the murder scene and Masuka assumes it's the work of the Trinity Killer. Quinn isn't so sure about that. He points out that Trinity never killed a married woman in a bathtub before. “First time for everything,” says Masuka. Quinn's suspicions about who killed Rita soon turn to Dexter after he sees a neighbor taking the murder harder than Dexter himself.

Dexter's 911 call also raises eyebrows after Quinn listens to it. Dexter is very clinical about what happened, telling the 911 operator what kind of incision was used to murder Rita. As Quinn says, “His wife just died; he’s submitting a lab report." Quinn learns something else about the neighbor who was upset. He was seen kissing Rita once, which caused Dexter to punch him out. Quinn is trying to piece all this together, but LaGuerta reminds everyone that the FBI is now handling the case.

Deb, on the other hand, remains supportive of her brother, even if she is puzzled by his strange confession in the front yard -- one he later doesn't even remember making. She is helping out as much as possible with Harrison and the funeral arrangements while Dexter deals with the guilt of Rita's death. Cody and Astor are the last to find out what happened, as they have been at Disneyland with their grandparents.

When the children do learn about what happened, they understandably don't take if very well, which worsens Dexter's condition. He feels intense guilt for not being able to protect Rita. Astor screams at him, saying, “We all would have been better off if she’d never met you." The two stepchildren then leave to stay in a hotel room with their grandparents.

Dexter then tells Deb to be a force of good in Harrison's life and take care of him like her own since his mother is now gone. Deb tries to remind Dexter that he is also a good person, but he says he's not. Later, when visiting Rita at the funeral home, he finally comes clean with her. While looking at her in her casket, he says, “I was never really honest with you. I’m a serial killer; that’s what I am. I led you to believe I’m a human being, but I’m not. That’s a lie.” He then touches her hand and walks away.

Although he told Deb he doesn't deserve to be at Rita's funeral, Dexter does return for the funeral and gives a very touching eulogy. He ends it with the words, “She died a brutal death, and I can’t fix it. But, I know I have to try, here in Miami with the people who knew her ... who cared about her ... who loved her.” And then to himself, he says, "Like I did."

(S04E11) "Blood tech, husband, father, serial killer and now, Kyle Butler extortionist? Which one are you?"

It is always fun to watch Dexter struggle over his various roles and purposes in his life. He's become a juggler learning how to add just one more ball to his act even as he's trying to keep them all up in the air.

This season, he's had more than ever before in a single season. He's a heavily armed Rich Little and adding extortionist to his list was a real smart move until, of course, Arthur gets the better of him.

Now that Dexter knows Arthur is hunting him, Dexter pulls the blackmail card out of his deck demanding $50,000 from him or he'll spill his dirty little secret to everyone he knows, including the police. This leads to another innocent death and Dexter doesn't really seem to dwell on it as much as the kill he made in the "Slack Tide" episode when he kills the wrong suspect. Either the script didn't want to get bogged down in more lamenting self-discovery or Dexter has been seeing such deaths as collateral damage. Could this mean that sweet, lovable Dexter is learning how to become a cold-blooded killer?

Of course, the details we are most interested in is how police are going to get Christina to crack and she holds up pretty well on her own. It gives Debra a unique opportunity to bring a plot line back into play that seems to have gone away for awhile: her investigation into her father's CI affairs. Much like the show's title character, she too has learned to deal and move on with the problems in her life and even though it doesn't help get her what she's after, it does give Christina something to pass through her pretty little head before that final bullet.

Now that Dexter wants Arthur all to himself for his kill table, he needs a fall guy and finds one in a prostitute murdering truck driver (Jeremy Clarkson would call that phrase redundant). The setup seems a little too easy, something even Debra noticed just as her brother was there to steer off the right track again. This might be a ways away, but I've got a feeling Debra is going to learn some even more sordid truths about her brother very, very soon.

Meanwhile Christina finally gets a hold of her father who wants nothing to do with her, which he says in no uncertain terms. She spirals and is ready to confess the whole thing but holds back on revealing the identity of her father, the Trinity Killer, when Debra tells her they have the truck driver on their suspect radar. She just had her soul crushed into a ragged little car cube by her evil prick of a father and instead of turning him in for the evil mass of flesh that he is, she confessed to shooting Debra and killing Lundy and then offs herself right in front of Debra's bloodstained eyes. It had me scratching my head.

But all of this confusion pays off in the end when Arthur is walking through the briefing room and marveling at the photos of his kills like a high school quarterback eying his trophy case was downright creepy and disturbing. Then he finally faces down Kyle and learns his true identity with in that slow, gloating drawl, "Hello, Dexter Morgan."

Next week's season finale episode should, hell, must start at the end of this exact moment.

Other observations:
- I know I've ragged on the Batista/Laguerta relationship a lot, so here goes more of that. They were bound to get caught again by the nosy Captain, so this time, they get married as a political ploy. When Laguerta asks why the Captain is gunning for him, he says it's "for arrogance." Is it just me or is it starting to feel like the only reason these two were put together in the plot was to give the nearly absent Captain something to do on screen?

- Rita finally confesses to Dexter that she kissed the neighbor during Thanksgiving dinner. Dexter seems reserved and almost uncaring about the moment at first, but then confronts and punches the neighbor. A lot of critics and reviewers ragged on Rita for being another distraction, but I've always enjoyed Julie Benz's performance and the plot she provides Dexter since he's always struggling with emotions that he claims he doesn't have.

- Once again, Jennifer Carpenter shined as the still-grieving Debra who hasn't completely gotten over Lundy's murder. The scene where she has to almost throw herself at the dry-erase board to erase Lundy's name from the list of unsolved murders was toned down a bit compared to the breakdown she had just after his murder, but just as heartfelt and genuine.

Season 4 Finale “The Getaway” Episode Recap

Big spoilers within. If you have’nt seen the Season 4 finale yet, you do NOT want to read this post, come back once you have!

Whoa.

Dexter & Arthur declare peaceWho saw *that* coming? Not me! A fantastic episode to wrap up the season. Rather than jump to the end let’s get back to the beginning of the episode. As you know last week’s episode “Hello, Dexter Morgan” ended with Arthur right in Dexter’s face on his own turf – the Homicide division of Miami Metro. Dex manages to nudge Arthur towards his office where an agreement is reached, Arthur does’nt want to kill him, does’nt want anything to do with him, just wants Dexter out of his life. Dexter agrees, only to buy him some time and get Arthur out of the office.

Thinking he’s intimidated Dexter, Arthur heads out the office with a smug look on his face. However Dexter realises that this may be the only opportunity to catch and finally kill him, so follows after him. He runs into Quinn in the carpark who has beef with Dexter about a report, Dexter – in no mood for delays winds up shoving Quinn to the ground. The chase begins.

While speeding through the streets, old faithful Harry appears – “What’s your plan Dexter?”. Dexter’s only plan is to follow Arthur until an opportunity arises. Adding to the stress, Rita calls about wanting a honeymoon - unfortunately he should have been concentrating on the road more and swipes a side mirror of another car. Ignoring this he follows his target into a parking garage and watches as he walks towards a bank. A perfect spot to nab Arthur on his return.

Dexter -about to lose it in front of the copsUpon his return Dexter cleanly grabs Arthur and knocks him out with his needle juice. Seems that Arthur was at the bank to close his account and take all the money, which can only mean that he’s planning a getaway. About to wrap things up nicely Dexter notices the guy who’s mirror he knocked off along with two cops, just as he was thinking his luck was finally changing. The conversation with the guy and the cops heats up when the he tries to take a photo of Dexter, who loses his cool and goes for the jugular and is then promptly arrested.

Back at Miami Metro, Deb is ordered to take the day off by Batista as she only just witnessed Christine commit suicide. Rather than chilling out Deb favours using this time to chase up one of Harry’s CI’s. The CI leads her to a scarily familiar place, the home of Brian Moser where Deb was on the cutting table 3 years before.

After Rita bails Dexter out of jail, she drives him to his car. Dexter hopes that Arthur is still unconcious inside, but unfortunately not. Arthur escaped and headed straight for his house to ransack the place for more money, which Dexter had hidden near the van above a light in the garage. Dexter grabs the cash and heads off, now without a clue how to track down Arthur again. Later Dexter talks to Rita about the honeymoon, Dex thinks it’s a very good excuse to get the family out of harms way. Astor and Cody go with their grandparents to Disney World while Rita and baby Harrison leave for the Keys ahead of Dexter who wants to stay behind for the night to take care of Arthur.

To clarify the Moser situation Deb goes to talk to Harry’s old cop buddy who hesitantly opens up and confirms that Dexter is indeed the son of Laura and Brian’s brother. Deb naturally flips out over this information. Meanwhile at Miami Metro things are heating up as they begin to work out that Stan Beaudry is not the killer they’re after. Deb is called in to interview Scott Smith, the 10 year old who was kidnapped by Arthur, Deb opens up to him about being kidnapped and helps Scott to remember the sign on the car he was taken away in. It’s the Four Walls sticker. This leads them to a build where they dig up a young boy, this along with other information leads them to one… Arthur Mitchell.

Debra & Batista open up the Garage to find Dexter already there.As he has no idea how to track down Arthur, Dexter heads to the Mitchell household to find that Arthur was there and desperate for cash. Suddenly Dexter is surprised by noise outside, the house is covered in SWAT. Dexter manages to quickly run and hide in Arthur’s coffin. Arising out of the coffin moments later just as the garage door opens to Deb and Angel and he explains that he rushed to the scene so quickly he forgot his flak jacket.

Once the rush is over, Harry intercedes to lecture Dexter, saying that the harm Arthur did to his family is bound to happen to Dexter’s, “You’ll always need someone on your table”. Deb interrupts this to tell Dexter about Laura Moser, Dexter plays dumb and pretends he never heard of her. Following on Deb tells him that two boys were left behind after Laura died, Dexter was one and the other was Brian Moser – The Ice Truck Killer. Dexter does actually panic a little but turns this into faux confusion and guilt that he was responsible for Deb becoming Brian’s target. In a teary moment Deb dismisses Dexter’s guilt stating that he is the only constant good thing in her life. Dexter takes this well and sees it as a way of differentiating himself from Arthur as no-one saw good in Arthur, but at least Deb and Rita do in him. Right after this conversation Dexter clocks the broken windshield that Jonah smashed with a baseball bat, Dexter looks through the envelope he got off Arthur earlier, he sees a receipt for the GT 500 to fix the windshield…. as well as a respray.

Back at Metro, the Feds have come in to take over the Arthur Mitchell case, much to the bemusement of the team. The least impressed was Debra who took the opportunity to blame the FBI for not listening to Lundy in the first place, which eventually led to his death. Matthews attempts to defuse the situation but even Quinn steps in to reiterate Deb’s point.

Arthur-CruisingEnjoying his cruise down the highway that afternoon Arthur seems to be very pleased, but later that evening he needs to pull over as the Mustang is blowing smoke and clunking, he pops the hood “Where’s my fucking oil cap?”…. Dexter appears through the smoke, pushes him to the ground “Hello, Arthur Mitchell” (cute) and wrestles him to the ground. It appears that Dexter beat him to the car shop, took off the oil cap and presumably hid in the trunk. Finally Arthur is on Dexter’s table, surrounded by hundreds of photos of his victims. A deep conversation begins, they talk about family, their inner monsters, heaven and acceptance before the merciful Dexter switches on Arthur’s trainset and plays that incredibly creepy “Oh Vera” song, then takes the infamous hammer, claw side down and kills Arthur Mitchell.

On the Slice of Life, Dexter disposes of Arthurs remains and ponders that his Dark Passenger needs to take a back seat to what he really wants now, to focus on Rita and his family. The family which used to be secondary and part of Dexter’s mask has grown into something very human within him. Back at home he glances over the family photos on the wall. His phone beeps, receives a voicemail from Rita, calls her back only to hear that her phone is right next to him. Outside of the room he hears a baby cry, rushes towards the voice… flips on the bathroom switch to see baby Harrison on the floor surrounded by blood, peering around the corner Rita comes into view, lying in the bathtub full of

Holy shit eh? We all knew a major character was going to kick it this season, but Rita would have been about last on my list! I admit in retrospect it is one of those things I *should* have seen coming. It does make perfect sense, John Lithgow and the Trinity killer could not be just another target for Dexter, it had to be significant. Then with Harrison I do feel bad though, regulars of my little blog would remember a post in which I complained about Rita being so annoying, with an accompanying poll:

I never knew the esteemed writers of Dexter read my blog! ;-) On a serious note I do feel bad about that poll now, but at least 148 (47%) of you agreed that Trinity should take her out too! Thanks for sharing the guilt guys. I will miss Rita though, she was always good Yang to Dexter’s Yin. As well as the character I’ll also miss the gorgeous Julie Benz. I wonder if she will return in Season 5 as a Harry-esque ghost? By the way there has been much net-natter about the whole scene being a dream in which Dexter will awake from in S5, showrunner Clyde Phillips has confirmed that this is not the case.

Dexter is another great show on Showtime, the cable network.

I started watching the first season recently, after discovering that the first episode of the second season had been leaked. I researched it and thought that the synopsis that I had read were interesting enough to warrant a watch.

The show is like most shows on Showtime, it contains nudity, adult language and situations.

The premise of the show is quite morbid though; a serial killer working as a forensic tech and killing by night? It’s only when you watch the show that you realize part of the irony that the producers have tried to inject into every episode. At the end of it all, Dexter is just trying to be at peace. The only way he can think of doing this is by killing criminals. He obeys a code of conduct, instilled into him by his foster father Harry.

Some parts are comical but most deal with how a sociopath can adapt to life in society.

I really enjoyed the first season and it ends with a lot of surprises. These events trickle into the second season when Dexter is confronted with new unforeseen problems that he has never faced before. I recommend this show.

Dexter Morgan is a special boy.

At age three, he was taken in by his foster parent Harry Morgan and raised with his natural daughter Debra.

Fast forward thirty years later, and Dexter is a forensic tech and blood splatter specialist in Florida, in the Miami Metro Police area. He works with blood. His sister is trying to get into homicide and keeps bugging him for his special insights that he has on killers.

His girlfriend is psychologically damaged; she was raped and beaten by her husband and now has intimacy issues, especially when it comes to sex.

What they don’t know is that Dexter is a serial killer. He kills perpetrators of violent crimes that in his eyes have escaped justice. Since he was a small boy, his father noticed that he was different. He instilled a code into his foster son, making sure that he was able to blend in to society, even though he was a sociopath. The only person aware that there is something wrong with Dexter is Detective Sergeant Doakes, who is always very suspicious of Dexter.

It has worked well and as his side job, he has gotten rid of some undesirables.

Things get complicated when Dexter gets involved in the investigation into the Ice Truck Murderer, a serial killer who drains the blood out of his victims and dismembers them.

The killer is playing with him, leaving him special clues and seeing his work. At the same time, Dexter is tantalized by his new playmate and his professionalism and genius in his eyes. Dexter actually finds out that the killer visited his home. Since then, the killer has been using pictures and events from Dexter’s past to stage his murders.

The investigation to find the killer is brought to a halt when Neil Perry confesses. Dexter knows that he is a fake, since Perry doesn’t recognize him and the Ice truck killer has been sending special messages to Dexter since the beginning.

The killer has taken it upon himself to make Dexter experience his past, even though Dexter doesn’t want to. Dexter learns that his biological father died. He was actually killed by the killer, but Dexter doesn’t learn this until the very end, when the killer gets sloppy and starts to clean up loose ends.

The killer has a plan and he is sticking to it. The killer is actually Rudy Cooper, an expert in prosthetics who is dating Dexter’s sister. Rudy plans a special celebration for Dexter by killing his foster sister Debra.

Dexter discovers this in the 11th episode of the season. He connects the dots. The question is, how will he be able to tell the cops about this without arousing suspicion? We also learn that Dexter was discovered in a pile of chains awed bodies when he was three, in two inches of blood. The killer recreated this scene in one of the last murder scenes, where he emptied 60 liters of blood onto the floor. The scene is gruesome enough to send Dexter into a haze of total recall about what happened to his mother.

Angel is attacked by someone after he starts making enquiries about a prostitute with the same nail job as one of the ice killer’s victims. He survives, but the killer has time to clean up lose ends. He has already disposed of the body of the prostitute by the time they realize that Perry isn’t the killer.

At the same time, Lt Maria LaGuerta gets herself into hot water by working around her captain. She should have followed the chain of command, but she didn’t realize that the old’ boys club of the captain would prevail. At the end of the 11th episode, she gets relieved of her duties and becomes a detective again in the squad.

Rita’s husband also makes a comeback late in the series and Dexter is forced to deal with him by using the law against him. He goes back to jail. Dexter, thanks to a murdering psychologist whom he killed, was able to overcome his intimacy issues and have sex with Rita, who herself has overcome hers.

The times that Dexter fails to follow Harry’s Code, he gets into real trouble. Once, when he killed Amber Castillo at the same time as her husband for killing Cuban refugees and another time when he tries to get Jeremy, a young killer who escaped him before.

Dexter feels a kinship with the ice killer, but the killer is just manipulating him. He only sees this at the end of the 11th episode, when he realized that the killer is actually his sister’s boyfriend.

Dexter’s mother was cut up with a chainsaw. Discovering this changed Harry. In the last episode, Dexter remembers that he has a brother named Brian, who is the killer. Their mom had her nails painted in the way the killer liked.

Angel discovers that the killer’s name is Brian Moser, thanks to a hit off a mental institution. In the endgame, Dexter is able to save his sister and rid the world of his brother, a true monster.

However, Detective Sergeant Doakes, who was already suspicious of Dexter before this, is now really suspicious and plans to keep a more serious eye on Dexter.

Dexter's worst fears have been realized. Because of Debra's unrelenting pursuit, Miami Metro is just one step away from discovering the identity of the Trinity Killer. And Dexter can't let that happen. Arthur's arrest would not only deprive Dexter of a satisfying kill, it would also expose the secret life Dexter's been leading in his pursuit of this monster. Dexter must take drastic action to buy himself time to deal with Trinity in his own fashion. Meanwhile, Rita decides to confide in Dexter, which doesn't go as well as she'd hoped. LaGuerta and Batista's breach of ethics paints them into a very tight corner. And Arthur, who still can't understand why Dexter didn't simply turn him in, begins his own bloody investigation into Kyle Butler.

Recent events spur Dexter into his own investigation of the Trinity killer. His motivations are now personal, and the clock is ticking. The season is almost over and that means things are bound to ramp up as Dexter moves in closer to kill the Trinity Killer. But this week, we get treated to a special Thanksgiving episode. Think of it as a sordid cross between the "Thanksgiving Day" episode from Father Knows Best mixed with the director's cut of any episode of Twin Peaks.

After explaining his identity, background and own "Dark Passenger," this week's episode dove head first into his family who aren't as Norman Rockwell as Arthur Mitchell might want Dexter and the rest of the world to believe. It turns out they are probably the most interesting aspect of Mitchell's twisted life and could turn out to be a huge asset to bringing the man down, now that he no longer has them in his upper hand.

Once again, Dexter finds himself torn between his need to dismember and destroy and the needs of his family. Since he's just gotten out of the doghouse with Rita, he has learned to make compromises without compromising what he needs. So for Thanksgiving Day, he fakes a quickie overtime job to spend more time with his latest target and his family after catching the eldest child (or so we thought) smashing his super cool Mustang, one of the hardest scenes to watch because (1) he opens up to Dexter and tells him about the unrelenting abuse he suffers at his father's hands and (2) that car is a classic. Seriously, a 1968 Mustang convertible is my dream car. Oh well, all the more reason to hate Arthur Mitchell more.

Dexter worms his way into the Mitchell house for Thanksgiving dinner and soon learns just how twisted the rest of the clan truly is: the wife is constantly afraid but unwilling to face the evil, the daughter is a shut-in nympho whom Arthur keeps locked in a room that's way too young for her, and the son is slowly growing tired of explaining his bruises and broken bones to his teachers and coaches. We even get to see Arthur inflict a rather painful broken finger on his poor son in a very visceral and powerful scene. This sets up an interesting scenario for Dexter: should he help himself and go back to his family or stay with the Mitchells and help someone else? His character has really come a long way from the first few seasons and shows he's sticking to the Code, even if it failed him in the past.

Meanwhile, back to the family nest. The lonely neighbor is horning in on Dexter's home life, from spending time with his kids to spending more than a little time with his wife. This week he makes his big move and plants a wet one that Rita reciprocates. It hasn't caught Dexter's attention yet, and how could it? The man is more emotionally frozen than a cryogenic Dick Cheney. But Masuka, Debra's "wingman," spotted them smooching and will definitely tell Dexter about it since the two are such close lab buddies. It will be interesting to watch Dexter's reaction and serve as a good test to whether or not he sees his family as someone special to him or just another mask.

Then the whole thing takes a big dive when Arthur Mitchell knocks on Christina's door after spotting her byline in the local fish wrap and she utters those two shocking words: "Hi Dad." What the hell just happened? Linking her to Lundy and Debra's shooting would have been enough (a big ol' "good call" goes out to the commenter who called it) as a desperate reporter who needs a bleeding lede for her paper, but this is just ridiculous. All this time, Quinn's reporter chick has been working both sides of the street for the villain? That really felt like a big letdown after the initial shock wore off. Sure it made for a nice twist, but now that it's been rolling around in my mind, it's formed into bad tilapia for the brain and it's not sitting well with me. Something tells me the show just dug a big hole for itself and no amount of bodies can fill it.

Other quick observations:

- The Batista-Laguerta relationship is now stronger than ever and so is my wishing it would just end. At this point, not even a solid link to Dexter's life or the Trinity Killer case can save it. If the writers just wrote it out of the script and never brought it up again, I wouldn't miss it.

- Now that Dexter has shown Arthur his dark side, just how is he going to get at him and how will he protect himself from Arthur, a seasoned killer who may be unstable but has been doing this a lot longer than our hero? Say what you will about Dexter not being as good as time goes by, but it can still bring home a good mystery.

- I've always enjoyed C.S. Lee's portrayal of Masuka as the brash and bawdy lab guy who thrives on keeping his twisted and tawdry reputation at full crazy, but he really did a nice job of stretching into more dramatic territory after he catches Rita and the neighbor making with the face sucking and has to spend time playing defense for Debra at Thanksgiving. There is more to a man than just his truck.

Dexter and the Trinity Killer aren't the only ones on the show who have been paying back their anger for the pain the world has dealt them. The audience is in on the same game.

We've been sitting through weeks of boring and dry subplots about secret affairs and office romances that we couldn't care less about if we were actually one of their co-workers. But now we've been rewarded for our patience with some seedy and very interesting details about Dexter's main prey, the Trinity Killer, a man held in a very weak cage of despair and anger.

I've raved before about John Lithgow's portrayal of this very cold and calculating man, but this episode really helped him shine, both as the character and the actor. Lithgow has one of the most varied acting careers in any medium, but he really gets the opportunity to show that range in his run on Dexter. And it's more than just being a ruthless killer to a family man with something to hide. Now that he's opened up to Dexter, er, Kyle, he can take his character to all sorts of interesting places, and he does so successfully. It's never over the top or too laid back. It's just about perfect. Something tells me he's not only giving Dexter some lessons to learn, but Michael C. Hall, as well.

The writing seems to be getting a little better as a new angle (no forensics pun intended, this isn't an episode of CSI) on Debra's shooting. Shooting Frank and Debra never seemed to be Trinity's style both before and after we learned the killer's true identity. It's a great and interesting twist on a story that seem doomed to fall apart without much to direct it. And we finally get to see Debra in her bra for the first time since the first season. Heinz was right, good things do come to those who wait.

Even Quinn's relationship with Christine the reporter has gotten better with age. It's finally starting to diverge with the plotlines we actually care about and could be setting itself up for an interesting showdown if the previews of next week's episode are any valid indication. Too bad it didn't feature one of Batista and Laguerta breaking up for good, or it would have me biting nails for all seven days leading up to the episode instead of six.

Benito Gomez was a former boxer who beat up couple of people to death, to the point of disfiguration. He became Dexter's first victim in Season 4.

Gomez was arrested by Joey Quinn and was being prosecuted. However a fatigued Dexter brought wrong evidence to the court and Gomez was released, which caused Quinn to get very upset with Dexter. Gomez was later caught by Dexter when he was at home and killed in an abandoned boxing ring.

Why victim deserves it: Killed his first wife by drug overdose. Uses her money to hire a dream team of lawyers that get him off. Killed his second wife on a cruise ship and the FBI decides not to prosecute.

Dexter's kill methods and rituals: Dexter covers Ethan's room on the cruise ship with plastic. Wraps Ethan in plastic and lays him on the floor. Dexter takes his blood slide and since he is not wrapped to anything Dexter has to use his knees to keep him down. He stabs him in the chest cuts him up, wraps in in garbage bags and disposes of him out the porthole in Ethan's room.

Victim's last words: "Hey..ugh-"

Dexter's last words to victim: "I've been going through some changes myself lately. I'm getting married and I have a baby on the way...ME. Even though my life may never be the same I want to thank you for reminding me how important it is to take time for oneself. Savor these moments alone."

Location of killing: In Ethan's room on the cruise ship.

Close calls/slip-ups: Dexter "took care" of Ethan just one day after Miguel shared with him the frustration he felt over letting this guy get away. Once Miguel got the news that Ethan went missing, he immediately sensed Dexter was responsible (especially since the Coast Guard couldn't find Dex where he said he'd be). In a way, Miguel had set this up, and Dexter came through for him to finish a job he couldn't legally do himself. Dexter's overzealousness could not be hidden from Miguel.

Season 3
Ethan Turner had killed at least 2 of his wives and took their money and assets. Miguel Prado mentions him in a conversation with Dexter. According to Miguel , he got away with his first wife's murder by staging it as an overdose of pain meds. Then recently, he got rid of his second wife while on a cruise in International waters where Miguel has no jurisdiction. Dexter decides to investigate him.He first checks Ethan out at a resort/hobby store and makes casual conversation with him. Once he discovers that Ethan is headed on a cruise to Bimini, Bahamas, Dexter follows him onto the ship. Once onboard, he creeps up on Ethan after he gets out of the shower in his room. Dexter then kills him and disposes of him within one hour. Ethan is later declared missing, when he is not found on the ship.

Dexter's kill methods and rituals: Dexter breaks into Nathan's house and see him looking at pictures on his computer of Cody and Astor at the beach. He gets really upset and strangles him (not Dexter's usual way-not even a blood slide) While dragging him out he remembers he needs milk for the children and takes it from Nathan's fridge.

Close calls/slip-ups: Miguel Prado catches Dexter off-guard right after Dexter kills Freebo. Dexter intercepts Prado outside before he could see the kill room and convinces Prado that he only killed Freebo in self-defense. Prado seems very grateful to Dexter since he was there to kill Freebo himself and wasn't sure if he could go through with it. This seems to be a big bonding moment for them.

Season 3
Fred Bowman aka Freebo was a drug dealer, who had killed two college girls but got off due to a bad warrant. Dexter arrived at his house, claiming that he wants to purchase some drugs, but actually he wanted to get the insight of Freebo's home. Later that night, when Dexter came to kill him Freebo was fighting a man named Oscar Prado and managed to escape from both Dexter and Oscar. Police believed that Freebo had killed Oscar, while Dexter had actually killed him and became the prime target of policemen throughout the city. At first it was believed that Freebo had left town, his girlfriend Teegan was found dead, which made Dexter think that Freebo is still in town. Police had no idea that the dead girl was Freebo's girlfriend until Debra found out from a Freebo's associate pimp named Javier Garza, that the dead girl was actually linked to Freebo.Meanwhile Freebo was hiding at his girlfriends house, where Dexter found him, chocked him with garrote wire, took him to a garage, where he set him vertically up on a picnic table in plastic wrap. Dexter cut his cheek, collected blood sample from him, and confronted him about Teagan and other two girls, that he had killed. Freebo, claimed that he didn't kill Teagan, but Dexter didn't believe him and stabed him in the neck with same knife that Oscar had attacked Freebo and was killed by Dexter. A Later it was revealed that Freebo actually didn't kill Teagan, because Javier Garza was found killed in similar way. The real killer was a man named George Washington King, who had had dealings with Freebo and who had lent Freebo some money, which Freebo didn't return and killed people close to Freebo, because Freebo had disrespected him.

Michael C. Hall will narrate as Dexter Morgan and will be based on how Dexter honed his serial killer skills, some episodes will, as a producer/write of the show explained “how Dexter’s killing techniques evolved, from haphazard to the calculated methods seen on the show.”

Norberto Cervantes

Norberto Cervantes was a professional hitman and assassin working for Carlos Guerrero. Norberto was dispatched to kill Officer Ricky Simmons when Carlos discovered that he was an undercover cop trying to infiltrate his organization, and Norberto did so by throwing him off a freeway overpass, but not before Ricky bites and takes a chunk of flesh out of Norberto's arm. Norberto then checked Ricky's phone, and discovered he had been in constant contact with his wife, Kara, and to prevent information leaking to the police, Norberto went to the Simmons residence, and shot Kara in the back and departed, but not before his bleeding arm left a drop of blood at the scene. When Kara succumbed to her injuries in hospital, her secret lover, Doakes, was driven to investigate harder and soon discovered the DNA trail and arrested Norberto. LaGuerta offered Norberto a more lenient sentence in exchange for providing enough evidence to bring down Guerrero, and he seriously considered this, but somehow Guerrero knew, and arranged for another one of his assassins, disguised as a prison guard, to bring Norberto to the prison's showers, where he stabs Norberto to death.

Freebo escapes and Dexter is left to fight off a man he assumes to be a drug dealer. In self-defense, Dexter kills the man with the knife meant for Freebo. To his horror, Dexter is left standing over his latest victim, unsure if the kill was justified under "Harry's Code". In the struggle, Dexter accidentally loses a crown filling at the scene. He must show up and find it before other investigators on the scene. Later, Dexter checks on Oscar Prado's record at the police station. He is caught and questioned on it by ADA Miguel Prado.

Season 3
Oscar Prado is younger brother of ADA Miguel Prado and sheriff Ramon Prado, a drug user and one of the few victims that Dexter killed while not following the Code of Harry.

Oscar is first seen at home of a drug dealer Freebo, who is Dexter's selected victim ,struggling with Freebo. Freebo manages to escape and Oscar begans to fight with Dexter, who stabs him in self-defense with Oscar's knife..Oscar's body is seen the next day at the crime scene, where his brothers Ramon and Miguel are also present, as well as at his funeral which Dexter attends, because Miguel had invited him.

First it is believed that Oscar died doing his duty, but Debra managed to learn from a police informant Anton that Oscar was actually a drug user and in Freebo's debt.

Dexter's kill methods and rituals: The tables are turned and Dexter is tied to a table. While George is going to retrieve his knife to skin and kill Dexter, Dexter flips the table on it's side breaking his hand and setting him free. Dexter is able to subdue George and breaks his neck just as the police are entering the factory. At the perfect time Dexter throws George off the edge and right under the arriving police car. This skins his face (how apropos) and breaks his neck- or so the police think.

Dexter's last words to victim: "Miguel Prado tell you that, he wanted me dead so he used you. He played on your obsession...Probably wasn't too hard, Ha ha ha, you are a little single minded."

Close calls/slip-ups: The police show up to arrest George, but Dexter had just finished killing him. Dexter throws George's body over a railing, causing a squad car to hit it. Dexter escapes from the factory undetected and the police believe it was the impact of their car on the Skinner that broke his neck.

Season 3
George Washington King real name Jorge Orozco, was a man from Nicaragua who was conscripted into his country's army. Jorge rose the rank of Captain in the Resistencia Nicaraguense Army; heading an interrogation unit. Jorge tortured and killed people for a living, to the point he was affectionatly referred to in his homeland as "The Blade". His time in the army left him with a deep need for respect.

Jorge left the army and moved to the United States and settled in Miami; founding and becoming boss of his own tree-trimming company. Jorge was driven to become a serial killer; named "The Skinner" (for cutting cutting off portions of skin from his victim's bodies after, or in some cases before, killing them) when one of his criminal associates; Freebo, disappeared while owing him a large amount of money (in reality he was killed by Dexter). Feeling he had been disrespected; Jorge decided to hunt him down and make him pay for his affront. Monitoring the investigation carefully, Jorge trailed Debra Morgan around town as she met with Freebo's old associates in an attempt to find him, covertly watching their homes under the cover of trimming their trees, and eventually kidnaps, tortures and kills them one-by-one.

When Jorge was first suspected, he was held for questioning, but deflected attention to one of his violent employees; though suspicion centred on him entirely when the employee had a near-panic attack when he learned Jorge was involved. Jorge was ultimately exposed when he kidnapped and tortured Anton Briggs, a former-confidential informant the police had set up to appear to know where Freebo was, but was stopped from finishing him off and forced to flee when Debra and Joey Quinn arrived at their location. Jorge was then contacted by Miguel Prado, who had let him go. Jorge was watching Dexter and Miguel having an argument, after which Miguel called him and told him that Dexter knew where Freebo was. The man-hunt continued, escalating when Dexter framed Jorge for ADA Miguel Prado's death (in reality by his own hands), but Dexter was ultimately captured and abducted by Jorge. Jorge intended to torture and skin Dexter for information; but instead Dexter effectively strips him of his control (by revealing the truth that Freebo was long dead), and quickly breaks free and engages in a brutal fist-fight with Jorge until Dexter snaps Jorge's neck; killing him. The police arrived, having tracked down Jorge's hideout, but Dexter is able to avoid detection by dropping Jorge's body just as a police car hit him, making it look as if the collision caused the death. Getting hit by the car skinned his face; Debra jokes that "what goes around comes around".

Close calls/slip-ups:Initially, Dexter tried to kill Lila in the U.S. at her loft, but Debra showed up nearly getting Dexter's needle instead. After Lila shows up, she relizes Dexter's plans and procures his killing tools as well leaving Dexter vunerable. Lila, however, unknowingly botches her attempt to kill Dexter and flees to Paris. In Paris, Lila's body seems to be left in a bodybag by Dexter but we don't know exactly what he did after.

Season 2
Lila is a former addict who meets Dexter at a Narcotics Anonymous meeting in "An Inconvenient Lie" and becomes his sponsor. She works as an artist, often using stolen items in her work.

Dexter has an affair with Lila, leading to his breakup with Rita Bennett.

Although it is never mentioned, it can be deduced that she is from England, possibly London. This is clear from her accent, the threat of deportation from Debra (meaning she is from another country outside the USA) and the fact that she mentions in That Night a Forest Grew that 'Everybody walks in London... of course they're usually walking to the pub!'. All these signs (including the mention of a 'pub' instead of a bar) point her heritage to England.

Lila sets her own loft on fire and helps Santos Jimenez attack Dexter, believing that she and Dexter are closest in times of crisis. She also breaks into Rita's house, afraid that Dexter might have gotten back together with her, and Dexter immediately ends their relationship.

In retaliation, she has rough sex with Angel Batista and then accuses him of rape; She had taken Rohypnol immediately after sex so it would look like he had drugged her. Enraged, Debra runs a background check and discovers Lila's real surname (West) and the fact that she has been illegally living in the United States on an expired visa. Debra then confronts her and demands that she leave the country or be deported. Lila, following Dexter and watching him on his boat with Rita, Astor and Cody, breaks into his van, takes his GPS device and finds the address for Jimenez's cabin. Arriving at the cabin, she finds Doakes caged inside and, upon learning from him that Dexter is the Bay Harbor Butcher, decides to protect Dexter and ignites propane canisters inside the cabin, killing Doakes.

Later, she abducts Astor and Cody. Although Dexter tracks them down, Lila traps them inside her loft and sets it ablaze. Dexter and the kids narrowly escape, and Lila flees Miami. While living in Paris, Lila checks her mail and discovers a postcard from Miami with Doakes' picture on the back. Dexter, who was in the room the entire time, injects Lila with a spinal epidural (so he can speak his piece to her while also ensuring that her death is painless) and lays her down on the couch. Lila pleads for her life and tells him that she killed Doakes and tried to get rid of the children for Dexter's sake. Dexter thanks her for helping him embrace what he is, and then stabs her through the heart. He wraps her corpse in a plastic garment bag.

Close calls/slip-ups:
Decides to kill Valerie at the last minute. Dexter does not have time to dismember her body as a result.A witness hidden in the trunk of a car who was able to see him, which begins a police investigation into Jorge being a Coyote and where the Castillo's ran off to, but in the end identifies the man he saw as Jesus.

Season 1
Valerie Castillo togegther with her husband Jorge transported illegal immigrants from Cuba. If an immigrant couldn't pay them, he or she was locked up in Jorge's auto yard, taken out on Jorge's boat and drowned. Valerie was fist seen at Jorge's house, when Dexter was stalking him, but Dexter considered that she didn't know about her husband's activities. Later, when Dexter goes to Jorge's auto yard and sedates him Valerie comes looking for him and Dexter realises that she is involved in killing innocent Cuban immigants too and decides to kill her. He takes Valerie to trailer, where he was holding her husband, wrapped her body to a table and put cotton in her mouth. When Dexter asks them how they make their relationship work when they're killers, just like him Calerie and Jorge tells them them that they had the same dream. After that Dexter puts cotton in their mouths and kills them. Dexter doesn't dismember her body and simply throws it in the ocean. The Ice truck killer, who has been stalking Dexter, dives after her body and places it back in the trailer, where Dexter had killed her. Next day in the morning Dexter and his co-workers find her body, which leads to Debra coming up with theory about a copycat killer and Masuka finding out that she was drugged, which almost leads Dexter to be caught. Later the Ice truck killer brakes into Dexter's apartment and draws a smiley face on Valerie's slide. When Dexter goes through some of his blood slides he notices this and understands that the Ice truck killer is actually testing him. Dexter then falsifies evidence, which leads investigators to believe that Valerie was actually killed by her husband Jorge.

Paul Bennett

After his release, he tries to rekindle a relationship with his children, though he still harbors disdain for Rita. After a short while in a federal prison, he loses hope after failing to convince Rita of Dexter's plan to frame him. Season 2
Jose Garza aka Christopher Harlow was a drug trafficker and murderer on the run from the FBI. Garza purchased cocaine from Santos Jimenez, but didn't get it, because Santos Jimenez was killed by Dexter. Jose Garza came looking for him, sent various text messages to Jimenez's phone. Garza had no idea that he was really talking to Dexter and also didn't have knowledge about Jimenez's cabin in Everglades at first, but he found it out and threatened to go there. Dexter, who had locked Doakes in there decided to meet Garza at Jimenez bar, kill him and make it look like Doakes had killed him. After Dexter had somehow knocked Garza out, presumably with tranquilizer he took him to Jimenez's cabin, wrapped his body with plastic sheets and despite Doakes, who tried to talk Dexter to give up and hand Garza over police, killed him with small hand saw without taking blood sample from him or waiting for him to regain consciousness and dismembers his body . After Lila blows up the cabin, Garza's brutally dismembered body is found alongside Doakes', which the task force considers conclusive evidence that Doakes was the Bay Harbor Butcher.

Dexter is one of those great shows you can catch on TV late at night, and you expect it to be on when nothing else is. It is packed full of humor that almost anyone can relate to, and includes problems that real people can actually understand. Rather than watching some crazy soap opera with twisted story lines, Dexter brings out the humor in everyday live even just by sitting in a coffee shop and chatting with friends.

While the idea of a show about a sympathetic serial killer seems to be unlikely at best and sheer fantasy at worst, Showtime's Dexter takes a seemingly contradictory idea and turns it into an edgy and captivating character portrait of a man whose mindset and point of view are significantly different than anything most people could even begin to consider. This series, just recently finished with its second season and getting ready to launch into a third, is based on the novel "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" by Jeff Lindsay and adapted for television by screenwriter James Manos Jr.

Dexter Morgan, played with understated charm and deadly accuracy by Michael C. Hall, is a blood-splatter analyst in the crime-ridden city of Miami. With Miami's unsolved homicide rate staying quite high, Dexter has a great deal of time to practice his own dark hobby, that of killing off other killers. Deter had been adopted by a cop (played by James Remar in flashback) after a traumatic incident as a child and grew up with what he called "Harry's Code," a code that forbade killing unless the victim deserved it; this code is the only thing that keeps Dexter, already a budding monster at the age of nine, on the comparatively straight and narrow.

Dexter's life is complicated by an antagonistic relationship with Sergeant James Doakes, portrayed by Erik King, who is certain that Dexter is guilty about something terrible but remains unsure about what it is. Dexter's sister Debra, played by Jennifer Carpenter, is also on the police force, and when she's assigned to homicide, things get more than a little tense between the two formerly close siblings. Dexter is kept from complete inhumanity through the presence of his girlfriend a, single mother named Rita, as played Julie Benz

Ever since the series's first appearance in 2006, the show Dexter has been receiving rave reviews from critics who hail it as an impressive character drama and a stunning display of style and storytelling. The Chicago Tribune states that "to deny yourself the engrossing “Dexter” based on its subject matter would be to miss out on one of television’s most fiendishly intelligent new dramas," while the New York Times calls Dexter "bold, different and exciting, with a central character and performance that take your breath away." This series has also won a large amount of awards over the past two years, including a Golden Globe nomination for Michael C. Hall and a Saturn win for Jennifer Carpenter.

Dexter went to Roger's car dealership to get a sample of Roger's DNA, where Roger convinced him to by a minivan. First Dexter took some hair from his comb, but discovered that Roger wore a wig. Next Dexter took a DNA sample from out of his trash and verified his presence at the crime scenes. Dexter suspected that Roger might try to kill another woman. Roger Hicks was soon captured by Dexter and brought to one of his crime scenes, where he had killed a woman named Ann Cohen. At first Roger tries to convince Dexter that he is innocent and that Dexter should let him go. Roger is killed when Dexter slams a knife in his chest after he calls Rita a cunt.

3rd try: Dexter thought correctly that Chino would go to kill the snitch and then he trapped Chino in a garage elevator and shot him with a police tranquilizer.

Why victim deserves it: Responsible for many killings. Many of his victims were innocent.

Victim's victims: He had killed around 13 people. Either he did personally or was somehow involved in initiating the killing.

Dexter's kill methods and rituals: He took all of Lil Chino's clothes off and strapped him down to a table that he made by laying a door on a couple of horses. What he strapped him down with was plastic wrap, like usual, but the first time, the plastic wrap wasn't enough and Lil' Chino was able to get away. Second try, he used extra tape that covered his whole body except his face. Dexter had a picture of the one woman's son, her self and the daughter, shes still alive but Dexter says he killed her on the inside. Each of the pictures had a teardrop of blood drawn on it, similar to the teardrops Chino tattoos on his arm after each kill.

Season Two
Little Chino was a very big member of a gang called the Twenty-Ninth Street Kings who uses a machete to kill any witness of his gang's crimes. For every kill he makes, he has a teardrop of blood tattooed on his arm. Little Chino is responsible for the deaths of about 13 people. He either personally killed them or was somehow involved in initiating the killing.

He was first mentioned in a crime scene, where a member of a street gang was found dead on the rocks near a bridge in Miami. The victim's mother saw her son's body and told Dexter in Spanish that a man named Little Chino had killed him and that she wanted him to be killed like a dog. Soon afterward Little Chino was taken to the police station, where Doakes interrogated him. Little Chino denied his involvement in this particular murder and was soon released. Dexter tracked him to Tattoo Parlor where this gang gets their tattoos. He was waiting outside, while Little Chino got his next teardrop for the last man he killed. After he had captured him he took Little Chino to the place where he had failed to kill Jimmy Sensio. He took all of Little Chino's clothes off and strapped him down to a table that he made by laying a door on a couple of horses. He strapped him down with was plastic wrap, like usual, but the first time, the plastic wrap wasn't enough and Chino was able to get away. Soon afterward Little Chino ordered presumably one of his gang members to kill a woman, a mother whose son he had killed earlier, so that he would be cleared of murder. He showed up in the police station with his lawyer with evidence proving that he hadn't comitted murder. Dexter stalked Chino to a party where other members of his gang were and attempted to assassinate him, but Chino found him and attempted to kill Dexter with the aid of other gang members. After a young boy reveals information to Debra about the 29th Street Kings hideout and Chino's gang members are arrested Chino attempts to kill him, but he is caught by Dexter, trapped in a garage elevator and shot with a police tranquilizer. After that Chino is taken to a location somewhere nearby, where Dexter straps his whole body with plastic wrap and kills him with his own machete by stabbing him in his stomach. Little Chino becomes Dexter's fist victim, whose body Dexter dumps in the Gulf Stream, where it is unlikely that he will be ever found.

Meridian was a psychiatrist who manipulated powerful women into shooting themselves. He first came to Dexter's attention when his third victim, Vanessa Gayle, was found dead in her bathtub after shooting herself. When Dexter looked into the backgrounds of the victims, he found that they all had regular therapy sessions for stress and/or depression with Meridian. Scheduling an appointment with him under the name Sean Ellis, Dexter investigated whether the suicides were deliberate or simply the result of sloppy work. During the second meeting, he noticed a small camera videotaping Meridian's sessions. After breaking into the office at night, Dexter erased his own files and looked at the sessions with the three suicide victims and found that Meridian denied them medication and filled their heads with noble thoughts of suicide, even recommending the use of firearms. Even though he had enough proof, Dexter still postponed Meridian's murder in order to have another session with him to discuss his inability to be intimate with Rita. After a relaxation exercise during which Dexter's subconscious memories of his mother's death came up, Dexter left and spent the night with her. The next session, Dexter confronted Meridian about his indirect murders before choking him unconscious and preparing his regular "kill room". When Meridian woke up, Dexter presented a theory that he targeted powerful women because he enjoyed removing their power and thanked him for his psychiatric help before killing him.

Chambers repeatedly drives drunk, and uses the pretense of AA recovery to get a lesser sentence. After fulfilling his decreased sentence, Chambers moves from city to city, changing his name to avoid further prosecution. Chambers is clearly not recovered. In each city, he repeats his bad behavior without remorse.
